The title “Dreaming & Dying” comes from zuì shēng mèng sǐ, a Chinese idiom meaning “leading a confused life as if drunk or in a dream.” The film explores the emotions, desires and repressed memories of three middle-aged friends who were close in their high school days. When they attend a school reunion at which no one else showed up, a long-buried love triangle between them slowly resurfaces. In this electrifying debut, Nelson Yeo uses dreamy minimalism to offer us a story of redemption and destiny, delivering an idiosyncratic film about changes in human relationships and nature.

Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate in Digital Filmmaking from Nanyang Technological University in 2011. Yeo has participated in Berlinale Talents Tokyo (2014), BiFan Fantastic Film School (2015) and Locarno Filmmakers Academy (2018). His short films have been selected in over 30 international film festivals. His first feature film, Dreaming & Dying, premiered at the Locarno Film Festival 2023, in the Filmmakers of the Present Competition.
