Kai lands in a coastal city in Brazil with a broken heart. The vacation she was supposed to take with her boyfriend turns into a lonely wander. Ending up by chance in Fu Ang’s umbrella store, she meets Xiao Xin and a group of Chinese workers living in a high-rise building. Amid misunderstandings and awkward translations, Wohlatz captures the sense of estrangement and loss of belonging that permeates the contemporary, in a globalized world that has only seemingly found lingua franca and in which we all feel like outsiders. A quirky play about language and the disquiet of incommunicability.
